REDUCING ENERGY BILLS THROUGH VOLTAGE CONTROL

A poor power quality manifests itself as frequent voltage fluctuations. When your equipment does not get optimum voltage, it consumes excessive energy. This energy wastage is, however, invisible & goes unnoticed, but this poor quality power will have a great impact on our energy bills as well as our costly equipment could be damaged due to this voltage fluctuation.

Now we consider the two cases i.e over voltage and low voltage, in first case i.e in case when the voltage is higher than the voltage at which equipment is designed to operate most effectively. Due to this over voltage problem equip.lifetime will reduced and increases in energy consumption without any improvement in performance. Similarly in second case when the voltage goes on lower side than the required/ designed voltage, due to this problem number of problem will generate in equip., for example contactors and relays may drop out which will be the reason for interruption in operation of machines.

Besides of above two causes there are one another factor, also have a great impact on voltage optimization i.e imbalance of phase voltages. Unbalancing between the phase voltages generate the various problem like heating motors and wiring, increased energy consumption etc.

Here we are showing some illustration test case through which we can conclude that how we can save the energy through control the voltage variation or voltage optimization.

Saving Through Voltage Optimization

Following test of KW consumption on assorted motive load of a cable plant conducted at various voltages will help you calculate the potential savings on your general motive load.

Thus, if your plant gets a voltage of 433 for 8 hrs, & you stabilize your voltage at 400 V, your saving potential is (19.2 – 16.8)/ 19.2 x 100 = 14% App.

WE CAN JUDGE THAT WE CAN SAVE UPTO 14% ON OUR ENERGY BILLS.

Saving Through Balancing The Voltage in All Phases

When line voltages applied to a three phase induction motor phase voltages are not exactly the same, unbalanced currents will flow in the stator winding due to this unbalancing voltage, the magnitude depending upon the amount of unbalance. The currents at normal operating speed with unbalanced voltages will be unbalanced to the order of approx. 10-12 times the voltage unbalance.

We are showing here a typical derating curve showing that a voltage unbalance by even 2.5 % of the nominal voltage can   derate the motor by up to 10%.

So with the help of installation of servo voltage stabilizer we can also get the balancing voltage in all three phases and gets a bonus on our investment in the form of energy saving which will directly impacts our energy bills.

Voltage control becomes primary concern for all electricity users as high bills can not afford by one so a proper alternative must be use for it's control. In that case use of voltage stabilizers is a fine idea which helps out lost to save bills
